QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK ME ALMOST
EVERY DAY
why do you need a cobbler?
thats a good question, i grew up in an environment / household where there was no importance / value in going to the cobbler, so i can see how you may think the same. however, as i have come into this dream career of mine, i have realised wow we actually need more people in this world fixing things as oppose to producing / making things. the fact that all shoes should be repairable and there's people out there willing to fix them, is important, but similar to a car, shoes also need preventative maintenance and that's why cobblers exist.... not only too fix you when you are broken but ongoing maintenance.
why have i never seen a women cobbler before?
i often find myself convincing customers that i am actually a cobbler and not just the chick at the counter..... the truth is..... most cobblers are grumpy old man imported from europe..... alcoholics and/or hoarders. it's not easy being in this industry....shit pay.....toxic glues.....loud machinery......rusty nails.....smelly shoes......women traditionally didn't work in trades due to not being able to do so whilst pregnant and that is still the case with being a cobbler. i still persist, despite the hardships because i'm sooooo dedicated to making old things new again and educating others around shoe care.
whats your turn around time?
good question, 1 - 2 weeks depends on the job and if i need to order any specific stock for you..... i tend to not take on the spot / on the day jobs but i'll probs do it for you.
do you make custom shoes?
nah ah, people often don't realise but shoemaking and shoe repair are too very different crafts, despite being in the same industry.... i studied shoemaking in 2024 so i could better understand how shoes are made to better understand how shoes are repaired. i have no interest making custom shoes but if you are looking for someone too - heres my list
do you want to go for a coffee?
i have 30 mins free between 12 - 2 on a monday and 60 mins free between 12 - 2 on a tuesday - meet me in north melbourne :-)
whats you're favourite shoe to fix and your least favourite?
worst shoe would have to be marni suprisingly and best shoe would have to be......anything else.....
